Contrast index
A measure of the contrast of a developed film, taken from its characteristic curve.
It describes how much density a film gains as the exposure increases, over the part of the curve that matters in practice. Longer development raises it. Some makers publish curves of contrast index against development time. It is a different calculation from gamma, and the two are not interchangeable.
